POST by SEZ: Renz's New PC

Sezni performing in CREATED

The Briens are my family and the Nicaraguan people are kids that live with us. The Nicaraguans are young boys that do tricking and Bboy. Together we did a play called created, which is about God and the Devil. We do it at churches to tell them the story of good versus evil.

One time, my sister felt sick and tired so she went outside to the van to wait until we had to go home. Aben and I, her brother, were in the van waiting when Jonny came out and also went in the van.

He brought my sister a plastic bag and inside the bag was a computer. He gave her the bag and said “this is for you” and she said ‘’what’s this?’’ He said ‘’it’s a computer’’ and it was a computer, but her face was just normal.

POST by ABEN: Lorenzy's Dreams Come True

Aben riding his pony

This is a story about my friend Lorenzy Brien. The first time I met Lorenzy was at a mall with my friend. Her and her family went to the mall to see a Nicaraguan folklore dance presentation. After watching the Nica show, the Brien family went to a restaurant to eat and that is where something awesome happened.

They met two boys that were doing flips in front of the restaurant that they were at and they saw something spectacular. She saw how those boys jumped and flipped very well and so Lorenzy’s family and her got out of their seats and said “oh wow thats incredible!” and at the moment that those guys were leaving because security were kicking them out, her dad and Lorenzy’s sister went after them.

Before the boys left, the Brien family approached them to chat about their fantastic gymnastics abilities. They did not have jobs and they were looking for jobs and Lorenzys dad asked them if they wanted a job at her dad’s house to teach the kids in their community and school. Her dad had even seen the boys on youtube because the boys would upload videos to the internet of themselves doing the sport, “tricking.” (a modern street form of gymnastics with martial arts)

Lorenzy’s dad would pray every day, asking God to help him find the boys and God heard his prayers. It was a miracle that Lorenzy’s dad found the boys.

Now she feels very happy because there are kids that are searching for God that they are helping. Her sister and the people their family have taken from the streets, and herself, have now formed a group to serve God. They are taking a message that is about good choices and bad choices and that only God can save us, to the World.

Today Lorenzy is even happier, because before she met us she only had like seven people in her family and now she has like 20 people. She thanks God because now the Christian group, the Nicavangelists, have fourteen missionaries in the troupe, and they are helping people in the World that have lost their way. Now the word of God is going to other countries, so that other people may find salvation in a loving God.

POST by FRAN: My Battling Brien-Bro

Sezni performing in the Nicavangelist Street Theatre Production, CREATED

Sezni, my brother, began to watch videos on youtube, he watched an epic Nerf gun battle. Nerf guns are toy guns that shoot out blue, yellow, orange or green darts that can stick to windows.

He would always exclaim "wow! These guns are sooo cool! I want one soo bad!" He told our mum about these awesome Nerf guns. One night mum wasn't home in time for Sezni's bed time, so he fell asleep in the dark and began to see stars and started dreaming about a Nerf gun battle.  The fight involved him and his friends battling the evil ones in the galaxy, with balls exploding into colour as they fought each other.

It seemed like five minutes had gone by before it was time to wake up and his dreams all disappeared into a safe place in his imagination.

As Sezni lay in his bed, still half asleep, he began to look around his room. He saw a plastic bag. The plastic bag was from Walmart. It was lying on the ground near his bed. Sezni crawled across his mattress towards the bunk bed ladder, curious to know what is in the Walmart bag. He reached the bunk bed ladder and began to climb down, skipping two steps at a time. "What is in that Walmart bag!?" He said with a tone full of suspense.

Sezni’s foster brother, Billy, has covers with Lightning McQueen on it. The covers were  lying at the bottom of the ladder. Sezni let go of the ladder and jumped down the rest of the way and landed on Billy's covers.

Sezni began to walk toward the plastic bag. He walked faster and faster untill he was standing directly over the plastic bag. He bent over and picked up the plastic bag. Closing his eyes tightly he felt the bag between his fingers, just like you’d with a birthday present. "NOOO! IS IT?!" he exclaimed excitedly! He ripped off the plastic bag and opened his eyes, "YES, YES, IT IS!!!"

He viciously tore off the cardboard packaging and flipped in the six blue darts to start rocking! His mum also had two midget guns and three darts, so my brother, Raffy, and him started to shoot at each other as they ran around and had a battle like the ones that Sezni had dreamt about.

They ended up getting really tired, "let's go get something to drink", Mummy suggested.  Sezni began walking towards the kitchen, "But I won!" Sezni stated firmly. "No, I won!" Raffy argued back. "Oooooh yeah?” came the rebuttal.  “Well I guess we'll just have to have another battle to prove it then..." They stared at each other eye to eye, then started circling. They stopped and began to laugh and then went arm-in-arm to the kitchen.

"We'll battle tomorrow to see who is the best", Raffy said in a baby voice. "Yeah, but I'm sure I'll win though",  Sezni assured his opponent but in a way that wouldn’t start another fight...

POST by SEZ: Good Fight, Bleed Right!

Sezni with Mayron & Leiskis

One Night, at a house that is like a cabin near a lake, one of the kids in our group threw a sandal right at my nose.  A lot of blood began to gush out of my nose and mouth.

I was on the bed, but then blood started to bleed out of my nose like it was rain pouring. I ran out of the bed on to the carpet, to the front door and outside with my dad trying to stop the bleeding.  The tricker and bboys tried to clean up the carpet and the floors and the beds.

Anna and her sister cleaned the floors and the carpets and washed everything.

I was bleeding to death!

Mum took the kid outside and screamed at him.

My sister was just looking at my nose and she was scared and she was screaming and crying.

Dad grabbed a glass of water then he started to tell me to drink a lot of water because he said I was losing a lot of liquid. I had to drink too much water because the kid threw a sandal at me while I was trying to sleep.

It hurt real bad, it felt like a tiger was biting my nose.

Dad told me, “You don’t need to go to the hospital, Sezni.”

Leyky felt terrible about what he did and he came out and said sorry for hurting me because my Mum yelled at him.

When I put a tissue in my nose, it stopped bleeding. After an hour, it stopped bleeding and I went back to bed.

I got a black bruise on my nose and I have had it for weeks now.

POST by RENZ: Carving Up the Surf

Lorenzy with her Nica brothers, Mayron & Leiki

Right now, as many of you know, we are in Minnesota. Here it is very pretty. They have a lot of lakes, and I mean a lot. We have been staying at a girl’s house. She lived with us for six months in Nicaragua and her name is Anna.

Anna’s parents live on a lake and have a really cool place. Her dad has a boat that he uses for his youth like to go tubing or other things on the lake. After being with her and her family for a while, we traveled about three hours away to some different people. My mum and I stayed in a different place to the boys, it was also on a lake. We spent two days on the lake, since we had nothing really going on.

The first day that we had free we were able to go on the tubes. The guys piled onto the boat and about four jumped into the green water and got onto the tubes. Since the boat had too much weight in it, some of us had to get off and wait until they came back.

Rafi, Erick and I got off and decided to wait. I read my book whilst I was waiting for my turn. Sometimes I would look out onto the lake and look at them speeding by on the boat until someone would fall off. It looked like so much fun and I could not wait for them to come back and get us so that it could be our turn for seaside silliness.

When they finally came back, they decided to take a 10 minute break because the boat was not being its normal self. When the ten minutes were up we got into the boat and instead of going on the tubes again, they decided to go onto the knee board.

One of the little boys went on first. It did not take him too long until he was up and gliding through the water. He made it look so easy and I thought in my head that it was going to be really hard for me.

One by one, we took turns going on the knee board and then it came to be my turn. I jumped into the water and swam over to the board. I lay down on my belly and waited for the triangle thing to come to me so I could grab a hold of it.

Once I was ready to go, I told them to start the boat. I felt the boat drag me. I pulled the triangle I was holding onto, up to my chest and tried to bring my knees up so I could sit on them. I had one up and then the board went sideways and down real fast - I did a face plant into the water!!!

They came around with the boat as I was swimming over to the board that had escaped from under my body. I tried doing it more and more and on my third try, I was up! Once I had caught my balance, they told me to jump on one of the waves. It did not look too bad so I tried it.

I fell onto the smooth water on the other side. I went back over the wave and did this quite a lot of times. My arms ached but I did not pay attention to that since I was having so much fun. The boat turned and we were headed for some waves. I was not really prepared for the waves that came and so I bumped some of them, went flying in the air, dropped the board and landed on my side.

It hurt just a little but then we went back to the house. We were all talking about how we had fallen off or how well we had done on the water. It was a great, fun, relaxing day on the lake.

POST by RENZ: The Haunt of Our Jaunt

Lorenzy with her NEW YORK cousins

Right now we are in Wisconsin at a camp. We have been in Minnesota and Wisconsin over the last week. On the first day of being here, about a few hours after arriving, Jose, Orlando, Eliezer, and I decided to go into the woods that were close by and well, just explore.

We decided to make it even more fun by recording it and pretending like we were in a horror movie or something like that. My phone battery was low so we decided to use Jose’s huge, black phone.

When we were about 30 feet away from where we entered, we came across a really big, wooden, old looking door. It was really tall and creepy looking. On the other side of the door, there was a net hung up and on the net were black strips of some sort of plastic. It was the only way to get to the other side and so we raced through it not wanting to stop, for fear of the nasty black things being some sort of poisonous snake animal.

Once we were on the other side of the strange obstacle, Eliezer told Jose to pause the recording until we found something else interesting. He went to pause it, when a shocked expression appeared on his face. We all looked at him waiting for him to explain why he looked shocked.

He glanced at us and with embarrassment and said that he had accidently not been recording. We just stared at him and then burst out laughing so hard. He just stood there looking embarrassed until he decided to laugh along with us. Once we had gotten back to normal, we kept on walking.

We had not been walking for too long when we came up to this tarp covered hut thing. We found the entrance and before slowly walking in, Eliezer told Jose to make sure that he was actually recording this time.

It was really dark but we just kept on going. Once we found the exit, we climbed onto this black thing and then jump off at the other side. After I had jumped of the wobbly wooden thing, I looked at it and saw that it was an empty broken coffin.

We were just wandering around when we came to another sight. This time we discovered three wooden crosses. (I wonder why everything was made out of wood and the black tarp stuff…) On a tree close to the crosses we saw the head of a deer hanging onto the side of a tree. Lying on the floor underneath it was the skull of a dear head and a few bones.

Orlando picked up the skull of the deer and started talking into the camera. Eliezer stood underneath the deer attached to the tree and made ‘deer’ faces. We became bored and kept on walking.

We were strolling along and found an even bigger, tarp covered, fort thingy. It wasn’t too far away and so we started walking towards it. Then we heard a bush move on our left side and automatically froze. We looked over and saw that there was nothing there. We keep on walking.

*SNAP* a branch behind us broke and we looked ever so slowly behind us. We saw that what had snapped the branch was actually Erick. He told us that he had been trying to scare us, but had failed miserably.

Once we got into the huge dark fort, I saw that there was a steering wheel at the front and looked around. It was an abandoned school bus with a tarp over it!! We walked through the bus and then entered this really bright room. On the top there was white fabric and hanging down were sacks with who knows what inside.

I walked through and then felt something hit my back. I looked behind me to see Eliezer bending over laughing, and a sack flying through the air. He threw the sack at me! I ran out with the rest of the group, leaving him there running around like a lost sheep stuck in a bush of thorns.

Our group ran all the way back until we got inside, laughing and joking all the way. After not too long, we each fell asleep wherever we could. It was an exhausting day. Traveling, and then having an adventure. How cool was that?

POST by RAF: Hello Hula Hips!

Raf with his Hoop

One night my dad, Elizabeth and Alex were watching a movie and I was on my own computer, I was playing club penguin. “I will show you the game at the bottom when I finish” I said to my dad. Anyway, after my dad and everybody else were finished with that movie, I had to go to bed. Then my dad came up to say goodnight and he went out, but I said wait “can you leave the door open” and my dad said “no” and walked on. “Every time I ask him all the time he always says no.”

Chloe
The next day I saw a jump rope and a hula-hoop, I did not know who it was for so I just went downstairs, but after three seconds I run back upstairs to get it. So I opened the bag and got the jump rope and I jumped for like 3 minutes and then ran back upstairs to get the hula-hoop.

I hula hooped for like 5 minutes. The hula-hoop I liked the most. I will show you a video at the end to show you witch one I like the most.

Then my dad got out of bed so I rushed upstairs with the jump rope and put the jump rope in its own place, then rushed downtairs to hide the hula-hoop. “I did that because I liked the hula-hoop more than the jump rope”.

When my dad came down stairs he saw the hula-hoop and he said “ho ho ho ho now how did you open that? I can’t even open that?” and I said “are you saying that that hula-hoop is mine?” and he said “yap”.

So everyday my dad would test me and my high score is 121 hulas. I think Chloe can do a trick with my hula-hoop too. Bye!

POST by FRAN: Brave New Girl!

Lorenzy, Grandad, Francesca, in Rochester, NY

Traveling is a lot of fun, but it can also be really scary, especially when you’re flying with just your 13 year old sister, by yourself. First time being in charge of passports, first time going through security by myself, with my passport in my bag instead of it being in Dad’s bag along with everybody else’s passports.

Well my sister and I flew from Baltimore to Buffalo with Southwest Airlines a while ago, and that was probably the scariest thing I have ever done. As we lined up to cheek in our bags, Dad was scaring me more and more every second. He made me check in our bags and he made me do all the talking and he made me take charge!

My sister was acting calm and I was trying not to get confused. I guess I had to be the responsible one, so that meant I couldn’t freak out! Otherwise we both would have freaked out!

We went through security and I started to panic as I couldn’t see my little brother or Dad anymore… All that was going through my head was “Oh My Gosh!!!! I don’t know where to go!!! I need to PEEE!!!! CALM DOWN!!!!”

I calmed myself down and Lorenzy asked me “can we go to the bathroom? I think this is the wrong way any way.” We went to the bathroom and I went into one of the stalls… “Oh… where should I put the passports?!” I didn’t even put them in my bag… I told myself “there’s a bathroom on the plane!”

I waited for Lorenzy to come out and we went to find our gate, it was really close to the bathroom! We sat down and I turned on my computer and began to work on my last Bible study for Teen Ranch, in Canada, where I was headed to.

Then I began to get excited thinking about seeing my two little cousins and my aunt and uncle and my Granddad! It wouldn’t be long before I’d be working at the Ranch for a couple of weeks, either.

A loud voice came on over the airport’s PA system, saying that we were going to start boarding soon, so I turned off my computer and got the passports ready. When the line had gone down a little we got up and walked over to the aerobridge entrance. We smiled and got onto the plane without any problems.

We went to the back so we wouldn’t have to sit next to any weirdoes. We got seated and everything, and then we were ready.  The flight was very short and we got there in no time… Southwest Airlines is my  favourite airline when efficiency and fun are high on my to-do-list!

we started to walk following signs to the baggage hall. We went through a smallish hallway and on the other side saw aunty Jamie and Granddad waiting for us! All my fears were gone when I saw them smiling and pointing to us, and waving at us!

We went to get our bags and then went to the car and drove to Rochester (New York), where we were going to be staying. We went to Aunty Jamie’s house and saw Tidgh and allegra, our adorable cousins.

Francesca with her adorable little cousin, Tadgh

We went out for dinner or lunch, not quite sure which one it was, but I know that the food was good! We had a load of fun and went to our good friends, the Seaburg’s. We would be staying at their house. I was only going to stay one night. Lorenzy is still there with them now, having a load of fun.

The next day I left for Canada with Granddad. I said my goodbyes to everyone and then hit the road… it took us 3 hours to get there, but we made it safely!

I just wanted to say Thank you to my Parents for letting me come here and for making this possible… I love you guys.

Fran, Mum (Elizabeth) and Renz in San Diego (A GORGEOUS city in Southern California)

Thank you Granddad for driving me here, it was a lot of fun spending time with you… I hope you made it back ok.

And thank you to the Stevens for adopting me as a new addition to your fun-loving family!

POST by SEZ: A Night Out in Nicaragua

Sez & Billy, several years ago...

One day, I went to the movies with my little step brother, Billy. We went to watch Iron Man Three. Some parts were scary, but the whole movie wasn’t that scary, but my mom closed Billy’s eyes real fast. We ate Mc Donald’s, not popcorn, not hot dogs, not even candy. We ate hamburgers, fry’s, we drank Coca Cola, it was delouses.

POST by RAF: Precious Pooches

Raffy with Rupert's dog collar
Hello today I’m going to tell you some things about the dogs Rupert and Chloe.

Chloe, the Labradoodle (3/4 Poodle, 1/4 Labrador)
One night at bed time my dad was not at home, so Elizabeth came up to say good night. After, when Elizabeth had said good night, Rupert came in my room, and Elizabeth asked me “Want me to keep Rupert inside with you?” and I said “well, he might scare me and I don’t know why!” So she took Rupert up to her room.

Raffy with Rupert, mischievous and loveable friends

Another day I was writing a story for you, the story was this one, and then Chloe came to me and barked and I think she was trying to make me pat her, so I patted her.

Raffy with Chloe's dog collar
Every time when I take of their collar off they act crazy. Every day the dogs and I have something like a play time so I play fetch, I pat them and I pat them on the roof of a shed (it’s very easy to climb on to the roof of Elizabeth’s shed, because the ground behind the shed is higher than at the front of the shed). I love the two dogs, even when they are annoying.

POST by RAF: At home in VILLageWOCK!

Rafman with the dogs in Colorado

Alex and Elizabeth’s house is maybe two small houses on top of each other and two small houses next to each other. They have 2 floors and then the basement, the first floor had 7 rooms and the second floor has 5 rooms. There are 2 bathrooms or maybe 3 bathrooms one of them are in the first floor and in that bathroom you can’t have a bath neither a shower because it is filled with buckets and the buckets are filled with cloths!

Elizabeth is a teacher and Alex is a math teacher in high school and a sport person. I think Alex and Elizabeth like there house. I played sorry with Alex and Elizabeth, I played guess who with Elizabeth, I made jokes with Alex, I played hop scotch with Elizabeth.

Alex and Elizabeth’s pets like to wrestle, fetch, lick, make squeaky noises, and swim.

Raffy with one of Elizabeth and Alex's dogs...

Why I like this house? I like this house because it is big and my room is too. My favorite part of the house is the living room because I like to watch TV.
