POST by ELIEZER: Parties, Machetes, Alcohol, a Fight and Dead People

Eliezer at a pond in Richmond, Virginia

Hello, my name is Eliezer. This time I am going to tell you about what happened in a street fight that left many hurt and two people dead, at a time we celebrate each year across Nicaragua.

On both the first and the 10th of August each year, there is a parade called the “IPICO.” Horses and carriages represent each Nicaraguan city, and in every town there are different activities for the local people to participate in.

My village chose a girl to be the queen of the party. They called her the Beautiful Indian. At the party in our barrio there were games and activities for the people to partake in. Men on horses walked through the crowds and everyone gathered around and played a game called the “Oily Pig.”

This game is a lot of fun. You see, there is a pig that they smother in oil, and then they let the pig go and you have to try and catch the small animal. It’s really hard. Whoever grabs the pig without letting go is pronounced the winner.

In this game the participants are formed into eight groups. There are three men per group. One person in the group has to go and catch the pig, and this is how my story starts.

At this celebration my cousin, , decided to play with a group of friends. When the game started everyone went to grab the pig and it was a tough fight. When someone had grabbed the pig, someone else came along and pushed the other fella off of the pig, freeing the grunting animal and creating an escape route for the wee mammal.

In one of these fights my cousin, Marcial, grabbed the pig but a man punched him from behind and my cousin fell unconscious.

When he woke up, the game was already over, but my cousin was really angry because of what had happened to him. My cousin went to go and drink alcohol at 6pm in the evening.

My cousin, Marcial, went to the man that had punched him in the game, to talk to him about the punch. The man who’d punched him grabbed a bottle and struck him over the head and he fell to the ground with blood gushing from the wound. A fight erupted and all of my cousin’s friends started to fight against those who were beating them.

Marcial stood up and grabbed a stick and started to hit the man who was attacking him and it turned into a massive brawl, with all of my cousin's friends fighting against the friends of the man who had slugged my cousin.

One of my cousin’s friends got hit by a machete and cut his hand. And his other friend was stabbed with a knife in the stomach and all of his guts came flying out. My family was afraid that the assailants had killed my cousin.

At that time my cousin was fighting with the man, but the man had a machete and my cousin only a stick, so my cousin grabbed a rock and hit him on the head, but other men arrived and started to beat my cousin. They left him in a wounded state, almost dead.

When the fight was finally over everyone realised that two people had died. One of the people murdered was a friend of my cousin and the other was a friend of the man who’d punched my cousin. Everyone else who’d participated in the battle was badly wounded. It was a very horrible fight. A celebration that sadly ended in tragedy.

I learnt through this horrendous event, that we can have black hearts, but we need to forgive and be patient because the loss of life from that celebration was needless and sad.

Thanks for reading my story.

POST by SEZ: Good Fight, Bleed Right!

Sezni with Mayron & Leiskis

One Night, at a house that is like a cabin near a lake, one of the kids in our group threw a sandal right at my nose.  A lot of blood began to gush out of my nose and mouth.

I was on the bed, but then blood started to bleed out of my nose like it was rain pouring. I ran out of the bed on to the carpet, to the front door and outside with my dad trying to stop the bleeding.  The tricker and bboys tried to clean up the carpet and the floors and the beds.

Anna and her sister cleaned the floors and the carpets and washed everything.

I was bleeding to death!

Mum took the kid outside and screamed at him.

My sister was just looking at my nose and she was scared and she was screaming and crying.

Dad grabbed a glass of water then he started to tell me to drink a lot of water because he said I was losing a lot of liquid. I had to drink too much water because the kid threw a sandal at me while I was trying to sleep.

It hurt real bad, it felt like a tiger was biting my nose.

Dad told me, “You don’t need to go to the hospital, Sezni.”

Leyky felt terrible about what he did and he came out and said sorry for hurting me because my Mum yelled at him.

When I put a tissue in my nose, it stopped bleeding. After an hour, it stopped bleeding and I went back to bed.

I got a black bruise on my nose and I have had it for weeks now.

POST by JONNY: Scary Christmas!!! (ho ho ho GO!)

Jonny at Niagara Falls

Hello my name is Jonny. My story is about a time with my family during Christmas (On the 25th of December of, 2005).

On that day my mum, like we'd do every year, wanted me and my siblings to go and visit our grandmother's house so as to spend some time with our family.

However, my brothers and sister didn't want to go and so they begged our mother to let us stay at home with the supervision of some friends. Mum agreed, and said that she saw no problem with the plan, but warned us to be careful.

Mum explained to me that she thought it best that I go with her and so I happily said "Sure mum." (I'm the youngest child born to my parents)

When I went with my mum to my grandmother's house, everything was fine. No problems to report. However, my mother suddenly received a call from a friend of hers explaining that my brothers and sister were drinking alcohol.

Upon hearing this news my mother and I left immediately. We wasted no time in flagging down a taxi and going to the house where my siblings were, drinking alcohol.

Once we'd arrived at the house where my siblings were, my mum immediately ran in, and when inside, saw a man that was touching my sister inappropriately. My mum flew into a rage, grabbing a stick and hitting the pedophile.

The man became very angry, because my mum had hit him and so he turned his abuse on my mother, hitting her hard. My mum couldn't adequately defend herself because the man was very large.

One of my mum's friends happened to be walking by this house at that very moment and saw the ruckus. He ran inside to assist her. After a lot of pushing and shoving my mum was able to leave the house, the drink and the physical abuse.

My mum's friend was very mad at the man that had hurt my mum.

My mum's friend went and sought out a large group of friends and explained to them all exactly what had happened. His friends also became angry and agreed to go and seek revenge against this man, because of the terrible things that he had done to my mum and sister. The men went as a mob to the man's house and they started to throw rocks at it, until the house was completely destroyed.

Later my mum's friends went to drink alcohol.

My mum's friends thought that the incident had been resolved, but that would have been to easy... The man, whose house had been destroyed, went and found his friends, and they had all decided to find the people who'd destroyed the house and kill them all. However, they couldn't find the men responsible.

But, before long, they found my mum's friend and they got up in his face and stabbed him in the stomach with an iron pole. These cowards left and a friend of my mum told her about the events that had transpired. She went to where her friend was drowning in his own blood. My mum called a taxi and organised for the man to be transported to hospital.

When they were in the car, my mum's friend tried to get out of the taxi and run, but shortly after died.

POST by BEYCKER: Bloody Murder

Beycker, from Capital on the Edge

When I was just 11 years of age, my classmates used to beat me at school and I was sad. I could not defend myself, but I had a friend who took care of the bad guys for me. He was older than I was, he was 15 years old.

My friend’s name was Cristian, and he was my best friend. I always played with my friend and I was happy that he was my best friend. After four years of friendship Cristian and I were still best friends.

I was 15 years old and my friend, Cristian, was 19, the day I went to visit him in his house. When I arrived, I saw many Police around his house. I asked myself, “What is going on here?” and when I looked inside Cristian’s house I saw a dead person on the floor.

I asked myself “What’s happened here?” I saw the dead person on the floor and became very nervous – there was a dead person lying on the floor of my best friend’s house!

I went looking for my friend, Cristian and found him in a park crying. I asked him, “Cristian! What are you doing here alone in the park in the dark?” I said “Sombody's dead and they’re lying on the floor of your home!”

Cristian sorrowfully cried “I regret what I’ve done, Beycker! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to, Beycker, I’m so scared!”

I asked Cristian, “Why are you crying, what's happened?” Crisitan replied “some guys gave me some marijuana so that I could see what it felt like. I then went home and my brother scolded me for using the drug. He was very angry that I had tried marijuana.

So I left the house and went into the street with other kids who were smoking pot and became very angry with my brother for yelling at me. I grabbed a knife and stabbed him 5 times in his body. I murdered my older brother!”

Cristian looked at me in the eyes and cried. I asked him “Why did you kill your older brother?” Cristian responded. “I killed him! I killed the brother that I loved!”

Whilst we were talking the Police arrived. They tackled Cristian to the ground. They handcuffed him and took him away. As Cristian was leaving he called our to me “Beycker, Beycker, don’t let them take me away! I don't want to be a prisoner!” I was very nervous and because of this I could not do anything to help my friend.

At that moment I remembered back to school when Cristian used to protect me from the guys who would beat me up. I felt bad for not being able to think of anything I could do to help my friend when the police were taking him away.

Cristian killed his brother whilst high on drugs and for that reason he remains in prison, still paying his sentence to this very day.

POST by JONNY: Finding Happiness in Homelessness

Jonny, before his time with Capital on the Edge

This story comes from my childhood.

When I was 8 years old my family lived in BILLA LIVERTA. At that time my brothers experienced a problem with some guys who came to a home which my family was visiting. About 40 guys began to throw rocks at the house and my dad was standing in the door and was not hurt too badly by the rock throwiang. The family we were visiting became very nervous about what was going on, because the bad blokes wanted to destroy their house!

But my dad had a gun and threatened all of the men with it who were damaging the house. The men, when they saw the gun, ran away. One of the rock-throwing-men hit the dog with a machete on it’s neck. The dog was dying and my dad was very angry and so he went to the police to submit a complaint, but the police did not want to go where the problem was.

My dad was very upset about what was happening and my Mum agreed that we had to leave this place (because of the violence in the neighbourhood). And so we left that place permanently and we lost our house and everything inside. But now we are well, thank God. But now we do not own a home. However, JESUS CHRIST is great and will help us and give us blessings to keep on going. Jesus is my shepherd and I don’t lack anything with Him.
