POST by STIVEY: Misguided Melvin

The Stivey we Know and Love - Deeply Feeling and Contemplative

Hi everyone! I’m going to share a friend’s story with you…

One day my friend, Melvin, shared with me that he was being mistreated by his parents. He explained in detail that they were using and abusing him. Melvin was ordinarily a really cheerful chap, but his parents ruined his life by making him live sinfully. Melvin’s parents ordered him to steal in the streets and supermarkets so that they had the means to satisfy their cravings for alcohol and cigarettes.

Well time went by and I lost contact with Melvin. He quit school. Two years after learning about Melvin’s lifestyle I ran into him on the street. He looked really different and was sporting several tattoos. We started talking and he told me that he had become a thief. After talking for a while we went our separate ways.

One year after chatting with Melvin on the street I saw his older brother.  I asked how Melvin and he were doing. Melvin’s brother began to cry. He explained to me that Melvin had died. I asked what had happened and listened as the story unfolded.

Melvin was robbing the son of a police officer and viciously stabbed him. He ran away leaving the son on the street. The Police soon arrested Melvin for his violent crime. The arresting officer was the kid’s father.

He took Melvin into a secret room and shot Melvin five times in the head and six times in his torso. He then proceeded to chop off all of his toes. I was shocked by the way that he had died and thought it a terrible shame, however I realised that the parents were also to blame as they had never taught him any manners.

“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

POST by JONNY: Bad Boys

Lorenzy and Jonny at Niagara Falls (Canada in the background)

This story is about a cousin of mine, Chepe.

A year ago, my cousin Chepe had a friend named Kalero. In the past, they were very good friends and they did a lot of fun things together. However at that time, my cousin did not know that Kalero had bad friends and because of those 'friends' Chepe was at risk of getting into trouble. Kalero had a lot of enemies that wanted to kill him and Chepe’s mum always told him not to hang out with Kalero, because he could get into a lot of trouble. Yet still, Chepe never listened to his mother.

Making your own decisions…

After my cousin, Chepe, saw what Kalero did, he wanted to do it too, so that he could feel cool. But he did not know that he was actually destroying his life. My other cousin named Ricardo, also decided to do what his brother, Chepe, did. Together with Kalero, they formed a gang that went around stealing things. When they made that 'gang', they started robbing people in the streets. Their soul purpose was to obtain things that did not belong to them.

Grief and hopelessness of the mother...

Chepe’s mum did not know that her kids did not attend school anymore. She also did not know that they were doing bad things and that they were hurting a lot of innocent people. One day, the Police arrived and they were looking for Chepe and Ricardo. Their mum asked the police why they were looking for her sons, and what they had done. The police responded with, "Your two kids have robbed a lot of people and we have been ordered to arrest them.

When my aunt found out what was happening with her kids, she became very angry because of what they had been doing. At night, when my cousins came home, my aunt was really mad and she asked them why they were in a gang that robbed people. My cousins did not say anything. They just lowered their heads and did not respond.

Notes of hopelessness

With time, my cousins and Kalero accepted many more people into their gang. With every day that passed, they were even more fearsome. Everyone who lived in their community were scared of the gang, because they were afraid that they would be robbed and killed.

After a big robbery incident that my cousins did, the Police went after every member of the gang and captured Ricardo and Kalero. When the Police had caught them, they told their family to come in and see them. When my aunt found out about the arrests, she felt really bad because she’d just wanted her kids to study and be hugely successful people in life, but with everything that was happening, she just wanted to see her kids - but couldn’t.

Condemnation

After three weeks, the day of my cousin’s court appearance came and my aunt was desperate. She asked God for everything to turn out fine in court. Ricardo and Kalero did not have anything to say to defend their actions before the judge. After my cousins had finished talking about the allegations, the judge made the decision to give Ricardo four years in prison and Kalero, eight years. Kalero received a longer sentence because he’d gotten into more trouble than Ricardo.

Reuniting years later…

After six years, my cousins saw Kalero again, but everything was different now because Ricardo did not want to do those bad things anymore and Chepe only desired to keep studying. Kalero was the only one that felt really bad, because when he got out of jail his mum had passed away after a battle with cancer.

Three months passed and one Saturday, it was Chepe’s birthday. He had invited Kalero to have some beer and Kalero said "Sure." After being at the bar for two hours Chepe said to Kalero "We should leave now” and Kalero agreed, "Yeah, let’s go."

Kalero and Chepe were walking along the street when they bumped into some guys that had previously had problems with Kalero. The men stopped the boys and said to Kalero, "Do you remember us?" Kalero didn’t respond and lowered his head. The men pulled out guns and started to shoot Kalero up and down his body. Chepe just stood there helplessly, watching them kill his best friend.

After three months Chepe became a Christian and now lives for God.

Thank you for reading my story and God bless you.

POST by JOSE: Hit by a Bus

Ericson

Hello my name is Jose Ballardo and I am going to tell you a story about my friend Eric and how he witnessed a tragic death.

Eric had a friend named Marco. Now Marco was someone who liked to joke a lot but one day, he went to where his friends were at and asked them all a question. He asked, "What does it feel like to die?" Everyone said that they didn’t know and wondered aloud why he’d be asking them that. He responded with, "I don’t know" and then persisted with the question over the course of that whole day.

Later on Marco said "Goodbye everyone!" and when he said that to them, they all asked "Why are you saying goodbye?" He responded by saying, "I have a feeling that I am going to die so I want to say goodbye to you all."

The next day, Marcos woke up and got ready to go to school with his friend Luiz. His mum told him "Wait for me so that I can drop you off at school." However, Marcos said to his mother, "No it's okay. I can go on my own." With that he hugged and kissed her, and then headed off to school with Luiz.

Marcos and Luiz had passed halfway across a busy intersection, but before they could get across the second part of the street, the lights turned green. Luiz ran as hard as he could and made it across, yet Marcos didnt make it.

Whilst Marcos was running, a bus going full speed roared towards him. He was unable to avoid the bus, and whilst Marcos was almost out of the way, unfortunately his backpack got caught in the bus, causing it to pull him under the wheels.

Luiz was in shock from the event that occurred and then became distressed at seeing how the bus had run over Marcos, with his body going around in circles under the bus. Once the bus had driven past the accident site, Luis saw body parts belonging to Marcos all over the street. The feeling that Marcos had told everyone about dying, ended up coming true.

Luiz went running to his mum and he told her everything that had happened. When he finished telling her she couldn’t believe it and almost fainted. Luiz's mum went to Marcos' house and also told his mum what had happened.

Together they went to the place where Marcos had been killed. Marcos' mum picked up the remaining pieces of his destroyed body. The bus had already left but someone had called an ambulance and shortly after it arrived.

The ambulance took the body parts belonging to Marcos so that they could bury the remaining pieces.
Everyone that knew Marcos went to his funeral and they cried because they could not believe that he was dead.

It’s really important to pray to God all the time, especially when you are in doubt about something, because you never know what will happen.

God bless everyone and I hope you like my story.

POST by ERICSON: Disobedience and Death

Ericson and Jose, cooking up a storm in the Ohio Valley

This story is about Jose and was written by Ericson.

Rodrigo and I meet in school and we were really good friends, inseparable.

I studied with him all through primary (elementary) school and we grew up together like brothers. We looked after each other.

One day I went to his house to hang out for the whole day and mess around and have fun. We were playing together when we saw his mum faint. She had passed out on account of concerns that were troubling her. She shared these feelings with her son, but Rodrigo ignored his mother.

Rodrigo’s girlfriend came over later, inviting him to go with her to the beach. Of course he wanted to go and so he agreed to the plans.

We were both 10th grade high school students. One average Friday, Rodrigo told all of his classmates that he was going to the beach with his girlfriend and he explained that his mum didn’t want him to go because of the feelings she’d earlier. But he didn’t care and so the next day he went to the beach.

He was at the beach with his girlfriend and her family and her friends. They lit a bonfire in the evening and after they started to drink alcohol. He decided to go swimming in the surf, so he told his girlfriend to go with him and both of them went in. They were already out quite a way when he told his girlfriend that he was going to go in deeper.

When he had swum out to where the waves were breaking, a big wave overcame him and smashed him into some rocks. He didn’t come out.

Rodrigo’s girlfriend’s family had the difficult task of explaining to Rodrigo’s mother that he went into the water but never came out. Twenty four hours later, his body was found floating in the water, completely destroyed. His face was deformed, his body beaten and his eyes were no longer in his body. They took Rodrigo’s body to his mother.

The family held a funeral for his body and his mother told everyone, “He didn’t obey me.” His poor mother was brokenhearted along with the rest of his family.

This horrible tragedy occurred because Rodrigo didn’t obey the Bible, which tells us to honour our father and mother and our days on Earth will be long and prosperous.

POST by ELIEZER: Stivey's Sad Suicide Story

Stivey mucking around in the Ohio Valley

Hello my name is Eliezer and this time I am going to tell you a story about Stiven’s family

My friend Stiven is a funny, nice, and very good friend but like everyone, he has a lot of problems in his life.

Stivens aunt, named Luisa, is a very kind and humble lady. She had a son named Jonathan and he was 19 years old. He was Stiven’s best friend but he had a problem with drugs and alcohol. He would always be with people that were involved in gangs and he would not listen to his mum.

About four years ago, around Easter time, Luisa decided to take a trip to the beach with her family. They decided to rent a mini bus that would make the trips to the beach, together with others from the community who also wanted to go. She did not know that it would be one of the worst trips of her life. The day of the trip, everyone was really excited, but the day before Jonathan had had a fight with his mum. He was high on drugs and acting crazily.

The time to go to the beach had arrived and Jonathan was mad at his mum. He went to Stiven and told him what had happened with his mum and Stiven pleaded him to not be mad with her. He gave him an idea to ask for forgiveness but Jonathan didn’t want to so he did not  listen to him and he went to the back of the minibus and started to drink alcohol.

When they got to the beach, Jonathan got into a fight with his mum but this time he went too far and he hit her with a bottle of alcohol that he had in his hand. Her head started to bleed and she started to cry and so Jonathan ran away.

Jonathan’s mum asked Stiven to go and look for him with the help of other people and so they searched for him for two hours. When they finally found him, he was on the rocks where the waves were crashing down.

When Jonathan saw the search party, he jumped off the edge of the rocks calling out “Sorry mum” and he died. The waves cut his body in half. It was impossible to get him out. Even a police boat tried to get him out but failed.

Stiven was really upset because Jonathan was his best friend and he did not know how to tell Jonathan’s mum because it would be difficult for her to take.

Stivey’s experience shows us that addictions and bad company make us do stuff that we might regret. Thank you for reading my story.

POST by ORLANDO: Pneumonia

Orlando, at the Assemblies of God's Family Camp in Minnesota

Hello dear friends, brothers, sisters and family.

Its Orlando here and I hope you are doing just fine! Today I want to share with you about an awesome time in my life, when a miracle occurred. God was with me, and through his help I was able to escape death.

Two years ago, I was on the verge of death due to pneumonia. It started suddenly with a cough that just would not go away. A month went by and I still had this cough. Every day became more intense and delicate – I had a lot of phlegm.

One day I had so much pain in my throat and lungs. I coughed well into the night. It was 12:30am when I got up from my bed because I could not take all the coughing.

My throat stung so much because of the phlegm and congestion I was experiencing. It felt like I was drowning and I felt very tired. My chest ached because I was not able to breathe - I couldn’t get oxygen into my body.
.
I felt like I was dying, and thank God my brother got up from his bed and helped me breathe again. My house flew into a flurry when they realised how serious the problem was.

My family immediately rushed me to hospital, but I still remained the same. In fact, my condition deteriorated because every time I coughed I would choke on phlegm. Four days went by and I just could not do it anymore.

I overcame my fear and resigned myself to death. The pain in my chest was huge and I wanted to die because the medical staff could not do anything for me. The doctors did not know what it was that was killing me and the medicines treating my condition were ineffective.

Two days passed and many pastors prayed for me, but what I didn’t realise was that God was in control of my life.

Thanks to God for a Christian brother, a true servant of God, which Heaven used greatly. This fella went to my house and told me that I was going to die, that I had a spirit of death following me, seeking to kill me. After explaining this, he started to pray for me.

My family and I prayed diligently to God, believing for my healing. Miraculously, I was healed by God and also received something awesome, being baptised in the Holy Spirit.

Thank God I am here and healthy because of Him. I want to tell you that if you look to God and believe from a sincere heart, he can make miracles in your life.

God bless you and protect you.

Hola queridos amigos, hermanos y familiares.

POST by ERICSON: Guerra de Nicaragua

Ericson, the Luchadore

Nicaragua’s civil war resulted in my family losing all of their land and personal belongings.

In the year 1979, at the beginning of the war, my family lost their farm and cattle. It was all confiscated by the newly risen communist government. All of my country’s problems started because the president, Daniel Ortega, made bad decisions.

Daniel Ortega wanted to be a dictator over our country, but some of the people that lived in rural areas of Nicaragua objected, because the President wanted to take away all of their land and belongings, and give the possessions to our country.

My grandparents objected to the decisions made by President Ortega and because of the ongoing issues, decided to flee Nicaragua, becoming refugees in Honduras. They bribed border officials with items made out of gold, so that our family could cross over into Honduras.

President Ortega tried to recruit every Nicaraguan man and boy. He wanted to send them to war for the Sandinistas. Everyone who objected to the conscription was killed. It was for these reasons too, that my grandparents decided to leave Nicaragua with their children.

But in Honduras, farmers would recruit their own people and my grandfather joined the oppositional army. He was there for three months and then died.

After my grandfather died, my mother joined the army. She was sent into Nicaragua and she had an accident, tearing one of her hands. The army sent her back to Honduras.

My uncle joined the army as well and was there for just two months. He died also.

When the war ended, my mum and grandmother decided on returning to Nicaragua. They began a new chapter of their lives in their homeland. They started working at the markets selling vegetables and ironing other people’s clothes. They were quite the entrepreneurs, sending food to other towns.

They worked hard, and that is how they moved into the position of being able to buy their own house.

Thanks to God my mum did not die, or my siblings and I would not have been born. Thanks be to God, because all of my family work very hard.
