POST by ELIEZER: Parties, Machetes, Alcohol, a Fight and Dead People

Eliezer at a pond in Richmond, Virginia

Hello, my name is Eliezer. This time I am going to tell you about what happened in a street fight that left many hurt and two people dead, at a time we celebrate each year across Nicaragua.

On both the first and the 10th of August each year, there is a parade called the “IPICO.” Horses and carriages represent each Nicaraguan city, and in every town there are different activities for the local people to participate in.

My village chose a girl to be the queen of the party. They called her the Beautiful Indian. At the party in our barrio there were games and activities for the people to partake in. Men on horses walked through the crowds and everyone gathered around and played a game called the “Oily Pig.”

This game is a lot of fun. You see, there is a pig that they smother in oil, and then they let the pig go and you have to try and catch the small animal. It’s really hard. Whoever grabs the pig without letting go is pronounced the winner.

In this game the participants are formed into eight groups. There are three men per group. One person in the group has to go and catch the pig, and this is how my story starts.

At this celebration my cousin, , decided to play with a group of friends. When the game started everyone went to grab the pig and it was a tough fight. When someone had grabbed the pig, someone else came along and pushed the other fella off of the pig, freeing the grunting animal and creating an escape route for the wee mammal.

In one of these fights my cousin, Marcial, grabbed the pig but a man punched him from behind and my cousin fell unconscious.

When he woke up, the game was already over, but my cousin was really angry because of what had happened to him. My cousin went to go and drink alcohol at 6pm in the evening.

My cousin, Marcial, went to the man that had punched him in the game, to talk to him about the punch. The man who’d punched him grabbed a bottle and struck him over the head and he fell to the ground with blood gushing from the wound. A fight erupted and all of my cousin’s friends started to fight against those who were beating them.

Marcial stood up and grabbed a stick and started to hit the man who was attacking him and it turned into a massive brawl, with all of my cousin's friends fighting against the friends of the man who had slugged my cousin.

One of my cousin’s friends got hit by a machete and cut his hand. And his other friend was stabbed with a knife in the stomach and all of his guts came flying out. My family was afraid that the assailants had killed my cousin.

At that time my cousin was fighting with the man, but the man had a machete and my cousin only a stick, so my cousin grabbed a rock and hit him on the head, but other men arrived and started to beat my cousin. They left him in a wounded state, almost dead.

When the fight was finally over everyone realised that two people had died. One of the people murdered was a friend of my cousin and the other was a friend of the man who’d punched my cousin. Everyone else who’d participated in the battle was badly wounded. It was a very horrible fight. A celebration that sadly ended in tragedy.

I learnt through this horrendous event, that we can have black hearts, but we need to forgive and be patient because the loss of life from that celebration was needless and sad.

Thanks for reading my story.

POST by ELIEZER: Stivey's Sad Suicide Story

Stivey mucking around in the Ohio Valley

Hello my name is Eliezer and this time I am going to tell you a story about Stiven’s family

My friend Stiven is a funny, nice, and very good friend but like everyone, he has a lot of problems in his life.

Stivens aunt, named Luisa, is a very kind and humble lady. She had a son named Jonathan and he was 19 years old. He was Stiven’s best friend but he had a problem with drugs and alcohol. He would always be with people that were involved in gangs and he would not listen to his mum.

About four years ago, around Easter time, Luisa decided to take a trip to the beach with her family. They decided to rent a mini bus that would make the trips to the beach, together with others from the community who also wanted to go. She did not know that it would be one of the worst trips of her life. The day of the trip, everyone was really excited, but the day before Jonathan had had a fight with his mum. He was high on drugs and acting crazily.

The time to go to the beach had arrived and Jonathan was mad at his mum. He went to Stiven and told him what had happened with his mum and Stiven pleaded him to not be mad with her. He gave him an idea to ask for forgiveness but Jonathan didn’t want to so he did not  listen to him and he went to the back of the minibus and started to drink alcohol.

When they got to the beach, Jonathan got into a fight with his mum but this time he went too far and he hit her with a bottle of alcohol that he had in his hand. Her head started to bleed and she started to cry and so Jonathan ran away.

Jonathan’s mum asked Stiven to go and look for him with the help of other people and so they searched for him for two hours. When they finally found him, he was on the rocks where the waves were crashing down.

When Jonathan saw the search party, he jumped off the edge of the rocks calling out “Sorry mum” and he died. The waves cut his body in half. It was impossible to get him out. Even a police boat tried to get him out but failed.

Stiven was really upset because Jonathan was his best friend and he did not know how to tell Jonathan’s mum because it would be difficult for her to take.

Stivey’s experience shows us that addictions and bad company make us do stuff that we might regret. Thank you for reading my story.

POST by STIVEY: Eliezer's Highly Haunted House

Stivey and Eliezer leading worship

Hello, my name is Stiven and I am going to tell you a story about unexpected things that happen in Nicaragua.

Three years ago, my friend Eliezer lived with his grandfather on a farm and he worked in the field with his grandfather. Eliezer told me about things that his grandfather would tell him, such as mysterious things that would suddenly appear.

On the farm, there was an abandoned house. A long time ago, some people went there to work on the farm and they slept at Eliezer’s grandfather’s house. One of these folks became friends with Eliezer. His name was Juan and he was the same age as Eliezer. Juan took care of animals that were on the farm.

Now both Eliezer and Juan liked adventures. One day they decided to go to a haunted house on their farm for the night, because Eliazer’s grandfather said that it was a scary house, where others went to scare people. They were awake until 12 midnight and they did not see anything, so they fell asleep not knowing what would happen.

At three in the morning, Juan woke up and went to the bathroom. Whilst visiting the lavatory, someone or something called to him and he was really scared and went running into the house but the door to the room where he had been sleeping would not open.

Juan looked for some place where he could get in but it wasn’t to be and the mysterious voice kept on calling. Whilst terrified for his life, he turned around to see what was there and he saw a black animal with red eyes, and the animal kept on getting bigger and bigger with each step that he took towards him.

Juan started running and climbed through a window of the house, into the same bedroom he’d been sleeping in, and woke up Eliezer. Juan told his companion to get out of the house but Eliezer did not listen to him and he told Juan to go back to sleep.

At four thirty in the morning something unexpected happened. The bed that they were sleeping in moved, and they heard something walking above the ceiling. Both Juan and Eliezer were very scared. They were about 2 km away from the nearest house!

Eliezer asked Juan to look for a torch so that they could leave. In that moment my friend Eliezer, thought that he was going to die. Juan planned to use the horses in order to escape. They jumped onto the horses and left without looking behind them. As they rode away, they could hear the creature behind them, following along!.

When they arrived home they were really scared. They could not believe it. They’d just experienced one of the most terrifying nights of their lives and it was all because they did not believe what his grandfather had said about that haunted house.

This story goes to shows us, that people’s crazy stories are not always lies. The stories are surprising to the person who is listening and hard to believe, but not necessarily a lie.

Thank you for reading my story and God bless you.

Eliezer with Grandad and Granny (UK) and little Brien-brother-Billy

POST by Eliezer: Nica Hard Knock Life

Eliezer whilst on tour in the USA with Capital on the Edge

Hello my name is Eliezer. This week I am going to tell you about my country and the place where I live.

I live within a community, in a town that is close to the capital of Nicaragua, Managua. My barrio is a very poor place and the people who live in my community often steal and are hungry all the time.

The people in my barrio work on farms. They live off the land – they are subsistence farmers. Whatever they grow, they trade or sell in order to have enough to live on. Many families have a single cow, which gives families milk to drink.

In our community there are many social problems. Most of the youth drink alcohol and use drugs. The young people, when they become dependent on drugs and/or alcohol, then need to steal in order to maintain their addictions. It’s a terribly difficult cycle.

My desire is to see my community be more responsible and caring of each other, so that our barrio can move forward and have a brighter future, without these social problems plaguing us. The landscape of our barrio is beautiful, I wish the people were too.

The most gorgeous element of our physical environment are the calm fields, which are rich with both flora and fauna.

The farmland is a tough place. Ever since I was really little, I have worked out in the fields with my grandfather. He has shown me that agricultural work is a very difficult job, but there are few occupational choices in Nicaragua for me, and so I help out with great joy.

Everybody in Nicaragua works very hard, but we earn very little. Ordinary items are very expensive and the President, Daniel Ortega, does not do anything to make it any better and so our town suffers.

In Nicaragua, most kids do not have parents because they do not have enough money to support their families.  Mothers, all alone and without help, seek to try and get ahead with and for their kids. For this reason, the trade of prostitution prospers. People cannot find jobs, because there are none (80% unemployment rate).

Nicaragua is the second poorest country in all of the Western Hemisphere (North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America) and the poverty makes it difficult for families to be happy. This is the life we must endure.

I always ask God to help Nicaragua so that one day we can all have a much better life.

On the plane, AMERICA BOUND, Eliezer  (middle) with Yordy and Jose (Capital on the Edge)

POST by ELIEZER: Mi Tia

Eliezer of Capital on the Edge

Hello my name is Eliezer. Today I am going to share with you about a person who is very important to me.

My aunt is 30 years old. She has three kids. Two of her children had a father that was very aggressive with them and my aunt. He would hit her and treat them very badly. At times he would tell her to leave the house or sleep on the floor. She was not happy with her life in this condition.

The man married to my aunt had a massive problem with drugs and alcohol consumption. Because of his addictions, he would get mad at everything and over everything. He would treat my aunt and their kids badly, especially when she would ask him for bill and grocery money, because he never had any money – he always wasted it on drugs.

They never had food at their house and so my aunt had to go and ask her neighbors for a little bit of food, so that her kids would eat, but there was never enough for her. She would cry because she could not afford the life that she had.

When the father of my aunt´s kids would go out, my aunt would look for a job to do, so that she could take care of her kids and earn a little bit of money for food. She would wash clothes by hand. The clothes that she washed were not her own, they were the clothes of other people. She would do it even though her husband did not realise she was doing it.

Her husband was a very jealous man and one day, at their house, he found clothes that belonged to another man. He punched her in the face and left her eyes bruised and swollen. He also pulled her hair. It was like he was going to kill her because he was so furious.

Our family found out and we decided that we´d go and rescue her from the man. We formed a group consisting of members from our family.

We went to the house and saw that she was sick and had bruises. We begged her to leave with us but she was scared of that man. With our help she decided to escape from him and to take her two kids with her, but the man did not want to let them go.

We could only take one kid with us and the other one stayed with his father. My aunt was living at my grandmother´s house. She was happier without that man.

The man is now in jail and the other son that stayed with him is in a gang that is always on the streets. The son is in a terrible state because of the bad influence his father was on him, but my aunt has hope that he will soon leave the bad parts of his life behind him and get on with his life.

Thank you reading my story, I hope you liked it.

POST by ELIEZER: Born to be Preaching in the USA!

Eliezer, climbing his mountain, with dear sister by his side

Hello my name is Eliezer

My trip to the USA was an experience I will never forget, because it was like a dream for me when I was younger to travel to the States, and I never thought that my dream would someday come true. God showed me the way. I am so happy to have gone to California, because I met many people who taught me that God never abandons us. I have also been able to help many troubled youths.

I remember that many young people were asking us to teach them how to follow God. But I
responded by telling them that each person has a purpose, and that they need to understand who God is.

I hope to take God's message to many people again, just as I did on my first trip to California. It’s irrelevant that we have problems, you can always get ahead with God.

Hopefully God will give us more opportunities to continue with the mission that he has given to us.

He's a son & a preacher man!

Eliezer, with his Team, BEFORE his Accident

Hello, my name is Eliezer.

I send you my story all the way from the USA. I hope you like it!

Since we’ve been in the US, we’ve been to a LOT of places. Many good and bad things have happened. My friends have changed significantly since being here. They are now more aggressive and joke around more. Sometimes I feel alone and I miss my whole family.

I am currently in pain because of a gymnastics accident at a fun trampoline place. I sprained my toe. My toe became swollen. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t even talk. I was scared too, because I thought I wouldn’t be able to do my sport, “tricking”, ever again. It was a very bad experience for me, as it has stopped me from being able to practice and perform with my group. When they dance I can only sit and watch. I want to participate! I am desperate to be in the group again…

Since my toe issues, I’ve felt at odds with everyone in my group. Everyone in our team has pain in their bodies and they get upset too. But I know God is going to heal them and after all, everything that happens in life, happens for a reason - even if it doesn’t feel right at the time.

Last Monday, we went to a gym (Twisters in San Jose) where the best trickers in the World visit. We met many people who are really good at our sport, and they taught us techniques to prevent pain. My foot was sore so I couldn’t practice, but I listened, watched and learned.

I give thanks to God that I am getting better. Thanks for reading my story.
