POST by JOSE: AGRADECIMIENTO A LAS IGLECIAS

Jose in one of the MANY Youth Group rooms we visited (stayed in)

I really just want to thank the American Church!

Jesus is in the hearts of the Christians in the Churches of the USA.

Receiving us: The first day our group went to a church in the USA was an exceptional moment for me. We were able to get together and fellowship with people who had big hearts, people who were very special, people who were filled with faith and love towards Jesus.

Hospitality: The Christians in America gave us love and kindness. They gave us hospitality. We met a lot of true people that were sincere, respectful, and very warm towards us.

Nicaraguan and American Christians: We, Nicaraguan Christians, have had really good experiences with churches in the USA. We shared with them about our lives, and they opened their hearts towards us, listening intently to us about our past and problems.

Christ in their hearts: The people we have met have Christ in their hearts. They adore Him with all that they are. We are brothers in the faith. They have opened their hearts and ears to listen, regardless of whether our stories are good or bad. I have those who we’ve visited all in my heart.

Gratitude: We are a family in Jesus Christ. It does not matter where we are from or what color skin we have. The churches that we have visited are very special to me.

To everyone: We have you in our hearts and have a lot of gratitude to you for opening your hearts towards us. I thank God that I have met you guys.

Thank you so much for receiving us with open hearts. Everyone here at Capital on the Edge are extremely grateful to you!

God bless you and protect you.

Amen.

POST by JONNY: The Comfort of Christ in Times of Crisis

Jonny of Capital on the Edge (Nicaragua)

Hello my name is Johnny. My story is based on a very poor family.

In 2008 a family lived in a house which they rented. They worked hard, collecting junk from the streets (mostly metal), which they then sold in order to pay their rent. They worked 7 days per week, all day, and never missed a rent payment.

The girls in this family were mostly aged between two and nine years of age. The girls in this family walked the streets, helping their grandmother collect junk to sell (they didn’t go to school) because their mother had left them to be with a man.

In 2010 this family was evicted from their house, by their landlord, and this made my mother very sad. My mother asked this family if they would like to sleep in our house for the night. They quickly agreed.

The next morning my father and mother discussed the problem for a long time. This situation was serious and troublesome. My parents came up with a solution, to have the family live with us permanently. My father, brother and I constructed a one-room dwelling for this family to live in.

With time the grandmother began to really trust my mother. One day she explained to my mother why they had been suddenly evicted.

The landlord had been raping her granddaughters and giving them money. The grandmother didn’t know about it at the time. Eventually the neighbours worked out what was happening and they told the grandmother, who became furious with this man. She confronted him about this tragedy and he became angry and sent them all out onto the street.

This family is now very happy, because they live in peace. Sometimes they do not have enough to eat, but they are free!

My Mum wants this family to be a part of our family, because that is the heart of God and it is what he would want for them.

God bless you, Amen.

POST by YORDY: Not Even a Teen, and Running with People so Mean

Yordy, in his barrio with his amigos

One day I went out with my uncle. He is very strange. He has a taste for rock music containing nasty words, which are not good (they are not God’s truth).

On this one occasion, he was already very drunk and the places around that sold alcohol, were closed. We found a friend who had a car, and so we hopped on for a ride. I was eager to sleep as it was about 2am.

We ended up going to someone’s house, but no one was there. We went out in search of alcohol. At the time I liked that kind of stuff because I felt a void in my heart for a very bad thing. I was in love with a girl…

It was a difficult time for me, because I didn’t know God. I wasn’t on a good path, about five or six years ago.

Well we ended up going to a hotel. At the hotel, friends of my uncle had gathered.  I still remember my uncle telling me, “Yordy, please get out of here. We have serious business to attend to!” I said to my uncle, “You're crazy! I'm very drunk and I have no money to eat!”(Yordy is currently 17 years old, and this was 5 or 6 years ago)

But I had time to contemplate and decided to leave because they were more drunk than me. However, I changed my mind 2 minutes later and went back to the hotel and hid in a room. The rooms were very small, but had a window where I could see everything that was going on with my uncle’s business.

My uncle was testing a powerful drug called cocaine. I cried a lot that night. After 2 hours we went to our house in the car with our friend, but I was very worried. If they had cocaine and the Police found us we could be in a lot of trouble, maybe even jail.

I thank God very much. He always cares for us! I ask you to pray for my uncle and his friends. They are still in the drug business. My uncle does not believe in God. In fact, he has a tattoo of the Devil on his legs. But I know that God has a purpose for his life and now he is improving a little, thanks to the work of Jesus. I ask you again to please pray for my uncle. God is making changes in his life and gradually he will change, with your help we can see his life changed. I ask you again, for the third time, to help me pray for my uncle. Thanks to all. GOD BLESS you.
